Softball Recap: Ironton Has No Trouble Against Rock Hill

Ironton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Rock Hill, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Fighting Tigers blew past the Redmen 7-1 on Monday. Considering the Fighting Tigers have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Bihl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aubrey Ferguson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Khamil Martin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ironton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Ironton pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Hill, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ironton will take on Wheelersburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rock Hill, they will challenge New Lexington at 5:00 p.m. on the 13th.
