Basketball Recap: Mattituck Falls to Southampton in First Game of Season

Mattituck unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Southampton Mariners on Saturday, falling 104-44. The Tuckers just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row dating back to last season.

Southampton was led to victory by Alex Franklin and Naevon Williams. Franklin almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine assists, while Williams dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 assists. Williams' afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrese Reddick, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds.

The win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Mattituck will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Southampton at 6:00 p.m. on January 23, 2025. Southampton and Center Moriches will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southampton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 92 points per game this season.
