Basketball Recap: Garinger Snaps 19-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garinger). They snuck past the Jackson Day Mariners with a 70-65 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Garinger got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Khente Carthran out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 25 rebounds. Those 16 points gave Carthran a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Lawler, who posted 24 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Garinger's victory ended a 19-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Jackson Day, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Garinger and Jackson Day could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Garinger (ranked 503rd) will meet East Mecklenburg (ranked 117th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Jackson Day will challenge Queen's Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 294 places (357 vs. 63).
