Softball Recap: Tonganoxie Starts Season with Win at Home

Tonganoxie gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Mission Valley Vikings.

Aubrey Prickett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Emerson Maslak and Kaylin Wiehe did most of the damage at the plate: Maslak scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Wiehe scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Maslak a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Farrah Halsa, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mission Valley fell to 2-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tonganoxie beat Mission Valley by a score of 11-0 later that day.
