Softball Recap: Buffalo Bison vs. Hopkins Royals

Buffalo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hopkins Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in April.

Kenley Bechtold was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Bechtold was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.

Bechtold wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was MaKenna Morell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Buffalo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Hopkins, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-6.

Buffalo and Hopkins could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Bison (ranked 224th) will meet Eden Prairie (ranked 93rd) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hopkins will challenge Minnetonka at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (153 vs. 12).
