Softball Game Preview: Dyer County Choctaws vs. Dyersburg Trojans

For the first time this season, Dyer County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the Dyersburg Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dyersburg took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Dyer County, who comes in off a win.

Dyer County took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Tipton-Rosemark Academy 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Choctaws, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Key made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abbie Gibbons, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kierstyn Ray was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Dyer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tipton-Rosemark Academy only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Dyersburg's offense. They fell just short of Gibson County by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.

Dyer County pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Dyersburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
