Gaels pile up 28 first-half points to put game out of reach early.

It took less than three minutes for No. 6 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) to score its first touchdown of the season. The Gaels, however, didn't stop there, rolling to a 42-7 opening-night win over a visiting Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) team that scored 45 points last week.

Gorman junior quarterback Micah Alejado, a 2021 MaxPreps Sophomore All-American, started off the scoring with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. The three-star signal caller’s accuracy was on full display as he completed his first 11 pass attempts and threw a first-half touchdown to four-star Elija Lofton and three-star DeVon Rice added a 19-yard rushing score.

Senior cornerback Elijah Palmer — a Hawaii commit — rounded out the first half scoring with an interception return for a touchdown as the Gaels led 28-7 at intermission.

USC commit and five-star senior wide receiver Zachariah Branch moved effectively after catching the football, moving the chains multiple times in the process.

The Gaels held the top team in Utah to negative yards in the first quarter thanks in large part to a pair of sacks from senior linebacker Palaie Faoa, a Boston College commit.

The lefty Alejado threw his second touchdown of the night with 8:34 in the third to senior Wisconsin commit Trech Kekahuna to make the score 35-7.

After an interception by senior three-star Kayleb Ervin, three-star junior wideout Jaylon Edmond hauled in a 42-yard score for Alejado’s third passing touchdown as the Gaels soared to a 42-7 lead.

A week after tossing six touchdowns, Corner Canyon four-star junior quarterback Isaac Wilson, younger brother of the New York Jets’ Zach Wilson, threw a touchdown to fellow junior Tate Kjar, who now has three scoring receptions on the season.

The Gaels draw No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) — and defending MaxPreps National Champion — at home in a MaxPreps Top 25 showdown. Mater Dei extended its winning streak to 18 by taking down West (Salt Lake City) 42-0 in the Monarchs season opener.
