Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Riviera Prep Bulldogs
The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Riviera Prep Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Mater Lakes Academy faced Williston in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mater Lakes Academy walked away with a 61-52 win over Williston. The victory was familiar territory for Mater Lakes Academy who now have four in a row.
Mater Lakes Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Christian Reid out in front who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds. Reid hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Khanye Moss, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Riviera Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 80-69 to Winter Haven. The game was a 32-32 toss-up at halftime, but Riviera Prep was outscored by Winter Haven in the second.
Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Riviera Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.
Mater Lakes Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Riviera Prep in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 65-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mater Lakes Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
