Preview: Vela Sabercats vs. Juarez-Lincoln Huskies
Vela is 2-0 against Juarez-Lincoln since October of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Vela Sabercats will head out on the road to face off against the Juarez-Lincoln Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Vela is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Juarez-Lincoln in Texas (Vela is ranked 354th, while Juarez-Lincoln is ranked 1126th).
Last Friday, everything went Vela's way against McAllen as Vela made off with a 42-20 victory. The result was nothing new for Vela, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Jamal Polley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 217 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Polley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Bernabe Gonzalez also helped out with an impressive 97 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Juarez-Lincoln, who are still winless after their seventh game. They were outmatched by McAllen Memorial on the road and fell 49-21.
Despite the loss, Juarez-Lincoln had strong showings from Pedro Menchaca, who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and John Menchaca, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Vela's victory lifted them to 6-1 while Juarez-Lincoln's loss dropped them down to 0-7.
Everything came up roses for Vela against Juarez-Lincoln in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 69-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vela since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
