Basketball Recap: South Haven Christian Comes Up Short

South Haven Christian fought the good fight in their overtime game against Highland Rim Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Highland Rim Academy by a score of 61-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss South Haven Christian has suffered since January 26, 2024.

Despite the defeat, South Haven Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maylen Gagliano dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Gagliano also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Polina Letova was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Even though they lost, South Haven Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

South Haven Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Highland Rim Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

South Haven Christian and Pleasant View Christian will face off at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Highland Rim Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Christian Community at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Christian Community will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Highland Rim Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
