Baseball Recap: Springfield Longhorns vs. Holly Wildcats
Springfield extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 3-11. They came up short against the Holly Wildcats, falling 14-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Friday.
Grady Mundell and Dane Rosengrants stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mundell went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Rosengrants went 2-for-3 with two runs. That triple was Mundell's first of the season.
As for Holly, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.
On Holly's side, Leo Mendonza made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Mendonza also tossed a walk, which is notable because Holly is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-8 otherwise. Mendonza was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Coy King and Drayden Williams did most of the damage at the plate: King went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Williams went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave King a new career-high. Alex Vazquez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Springfield nor Holly have any future games scheduled.
