Softball Recap: King's Academy Wins Going Away Against Cardinal Newman

After losing to Cardinal Newman the last time they met, King's Academy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lions put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 11-3 victory on Friday. Considering the Lions have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Caroline Duncan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Duncan was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiersten Zimmerman, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Lyla Diblasi was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

King's Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Newman only managed five hits.

The win made it two in a row for King's Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Cardinal Newman, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Looking ahead, King's Academy will square off against American Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.1, the Patriots 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Cardinal Newman, they will challenge Forest Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.5 runs per game on average), something the Crusaders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
