Baseball Recap: Mathews Comes Up Short

Mathews extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-4 in the process. They came up short against the Bristol Panthers, falling 8-2. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

As for Bristol, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

For Bristol's part, Diesel Williams made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Williams also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bristol is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ronald Imhoff, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Croc Thorp, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mathews will welcome East Palestine at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bristol, they will host Chalker at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
