Preview: Liberty Christian Academy Heat vs. New Bern Christian Academy
Two dominant guards in Mark Bachmann and KC Peter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Liberty Christian Academy Heat will look to defend their home court on Monday against New Bern Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Liberty Christian Academy suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 80-49 defeat at the hands of Southeastern Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Liberty Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Southeastern Christian Academy is ranked 206th).
Despite the loss, Liberty Christian Academy had strong showings from Bachmann, who scored 16 points along with four steals, and Luke Cavanaugh, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Drake Davidson, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Liberty Christian Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Southeastern Christian Academy posted 16 assists.
Meanwhile, New Bern Christian Academy had to suffer through a rough 59-23 loss at the hands of Pungo Christian Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Bern Christian Academy has scored all season.
New Bern Christian Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Peter, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Peter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.
This is the second loss in a row for Liberty Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 5-8. As for New Bern Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Liberty Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.2 points per game. It's a different story for New Bern Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 57.4 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Liberty Christian Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against New Bern Christian Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-49 victory.
