Basketball Game Preview: Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs vs. Martin Luther King Cougars

The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs will venture away from home to face off against the Martin Luther King Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Maritime Academy Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.

Maritime Academy Charter will head into Thursday's game out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They lost 76-56 to Hill Freedman World Academy. While losing is never fun, the Seadogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while Hill Freedman World Academy are ranked 269th).

Maritime Academy Charter might have lost, but man, Jadin Aviles was a machine: he went 10 for 21 en route to 25 points and five steals. Aviles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayriel Arroyo, who posted 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Maritime Academy Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Martin Luther King had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They snuck past High School of the Future with a 45-41 victory.

Maritime Academy Charter's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-11. As for Martin Luther King, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Maritime Academy Charter, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-41 loss to Martin Luther King in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Can Maritime Academy Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
