Basketball Recap: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Santa Barbara Dons
If the Rio Mesa Spartans were riding high off their 75-36 takedown of the Pacifica Tritons last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Rio Mesa took a serious blow against the Dons on Wednesday, falling 81-53. Rio Mesa has struggled against the Dons recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Rio Mesa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rodney Adams jr.. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Adams jr. has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Knowles, who scored five points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Luke Zuffelato was his usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with seven rebounds for Santa Barbara. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which Zuffelato has scored at least a third of Santa Barbara's points. Waylon Finkel was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Rio Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 9-17. As for Santa Barbara, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 21-7.
Rio Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Santa Barbara also has no future games currently scheduled.
