Volleyball Recap: Shelton Wins High-Profile Game Against Pomperaug

Shelton faced Pomperaug in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Gaels came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 3-1. The win was familiar territory for the Gaels, who have now won three matches in a row.

While Shelton might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Pomperaug scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18.

Austin Cayer paced Shelton's offense, picking up 13 kills. Cayer got some help from Matthew Reilly and his 41 assists. Cayer was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

Despite the loss, Pomperaug still got an impressive performance from Trevor Robie, who had nine digs and one assist.

Shelton's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Pomperaug, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

Shelton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Brookfield on the 25th. As for Pomperaug, they have also already played their next game, a 3-1 loss against Wolcott RVT on the 24th.
