Softball Recap: Coventry Oakers vs. Pilgrim Patriots

After a string of eight wins, Coventry's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Pilgrim Patriots by a score of 3-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Coventry of the 5-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Sage SoareS spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Coventry saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Dyl, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Coventry's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2. As for Pilgrim, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Coventry will head out on the road to take on La Salle Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Salle Academy is on a seven-game streak of home wins, Coventry a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Pilgrim will take on St. Raphael Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
