Softball Recap: Starkville Drops Season-High Score on South Pontotoc

Starkville scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against the South Pontotoc Cougars, falling 27-18. The Yellowjackets just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Alex Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Dodd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Jones wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Starkville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Starkville's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for South Pontotoc, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Coming up, Starkville will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Nanih Waiya at 9:00 a.m. Starkville has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for South Pontotoc, they will be playing at home against Caledonia at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
