Soccer Game Preview: Derby vs. Maize South

The Derby Panthers will take on the Maize South Mavericks on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Derby sitting on six straight victories and Maize South on five.

Derby's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against North by a score of 2-0. Derby's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four games.

Meanwhile, Maize South faced Kapaun Mt. Carmel in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mavericks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Crusaders.

Maize South pushed their record up to 12-2-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 38 goals over those six matchups. As for Derby, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.

Derby suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Maize South when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
