Baseball Game Preview: Highland Hawks vs. Bishop O'Connell Knights

The Highland Hawks will square off against the Bishop O'Connell Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Highland 2.8, Bishop O'Connell 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Bishop O'Connell will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Highland extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Hawks never let The Covenant get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Stephen Christopher tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Joey Rogers was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Gunning, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Highland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Covenant struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, Bishop O'Connell is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of DeMatha. The Knights fell just short of the Stags by a score of 3-1. The contest marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Bishop O'Connell also got a good showing from Drew Markey, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Bishop O'Connell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Woda, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

With the loss, Bishop O'Connell broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-2. As for Highland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
