The Monticello Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Goochland Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monticello's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Goochland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Monticello lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Fluvanna County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Mustangs blew past the Flying Flucos 13-3 on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Madison Steppe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Willow Barr was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Stella Snoddy, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and three runs.
Monticello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Goochland fell victim to Louisa County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Lions. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Goochland's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Monticello, their record now sits at 9-3.
Goochland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Monticello has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Goochland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Monticello keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Monticello beat Goochland 3-0 in their previous matchup on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
