Football Game Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Lincoln East Spartans

Columbus hasn't had much luck against Lincoln East recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Discoverers will venture away from home to take on the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Columbus will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Columbus is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Bryan: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Discoverers blew the Bears out of the water with a 62-7 final score. With the Discoverers ahead 49-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Columbus got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laitenn Braithwait out in front who rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Connor Williams, who rushed for ten yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Columbus was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lincoln East played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 42-14 loss at the hands of Millard North. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this matchup were averaging 14.17 points allowed.

Columbus' record now sits at 5-1. As for Lincoln East, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Columbus couldn't quite get it done against Lincoln East when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 27-14. Can the Discoverers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
