Baseball Recap: Weld Central Rebels vs. Eagle Valley Devils
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Estes Park, Weld Central was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 14-9 victory over the Eagle Valley Devils. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rebels needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Luke Witzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. Witzel was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Weld Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Marcello Rossi was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ross Phelps, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
