Baseball Recap: Weld Central Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Estes Park, Weld Central was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 14-9 victory over the Eagle Valley Devils. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rebels needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Luke Witzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. Witzel was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Weld Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Marcello Rossi was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ross Phelps, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.

Weld Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Weld Central's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. As for Eagle Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Eagle Valley beat Weld Central by a score of 9-1 later that day.
