Softball Recap: Newman Comes Up Short on the Road Against Athens

Newman had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 16-6 to the Athens Bluejays on Tuesday. The Fighting Cardinals have struggled against the Bluejays recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Maddy Keene was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Shields, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory got Athens back to even at 1-1.

Coincidentally, Newman and Athens will both be playing Stratford the next time they take the field. The Bluejays will head out to face the Tigers at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, while the Fighting Cardinals will host them at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
