Softball Recap: DeKalb Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hicksville on Saturday, DeKalb came back down to earth. The Barons lost 9-1 to the Leo Lions on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Barons of the 7-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

DeKalb saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Serena Wineland, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

DeKalb has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Leo, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

DeKalb will head out on the road to take on Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Leo, they will be playing at home against Columbia City at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
