Soccer Game Preview: McLane vs. Sunnyside

The McLane Highlanders will square off against the Sunnyside Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McLane is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.5 goals per game this season.

McLane will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Sanger West on Friday. McLane was the clear victor by a 5-1 margin over Sanger West. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by three goals or more this season.

Jocelyn Madrigal and Ashlee Salinas scored all five of McLane's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 29 goals.

Meanwhile, for the first time since back in December of 2024, Sunnyside was forced to settle for a draw on Friday. Neither they nor Roosevelt could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Sunnyside's draw gives them a new season record of 4-5-3. As for McLane, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

McLane suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Sunnyside in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can McLane avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
