Basketball Recap: Jersey's Win Ends Nine-Game Losing Streak at Home

Jersey's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-39 win over the Southwestern Piasa Birds. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Piasa Birds back in November of 2024, they had to take a 54-48 loss.

Jersey's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Brunaugh, who went 6 of 13 en route to 21 points and six boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Brunaugh has scored at least a third of Jersey's points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Kendall, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 15 points.

Southwestern lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ian Brantley, who posted 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Brantley is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Lowis, who scored seven points and nine rebounds.

Jersey's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-13. As for Southwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Jersey wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-45 loss against Civic Memorial on the 17th. Southwestern has also already played their next game, a 62-51 victory against Hillsboro on the 16th.
