Recap: Rocky Ford Meloneers vs. Peyton Panthers
This season hasn't been kind to The Rocky Ford Meloneers, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a serious blow against Peyton on Thursday, falling 45-7. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rocky Ford in their matchups with Peyton: they've now lost four in a row.
Isaiah Gallegos rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Thompson was his top target, rushing for three yards.
Noah Martin went supernova for Peyton, throwing for 282 yards and five touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Martin's longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards. Brian Keairnes was in the mix too, providing Peyton with three touchdowns.
Rocky Ford's loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Banning Lewis Academy and 9-2 Monte Vista (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.7% over those games). As for Peyton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-4.
Rocky Ford will be playing at home against Rye at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Peyton, they will head out on the road to face off against Colorado Springs Christian at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
