Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short

Covenant Day had taken Cary Academy down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Lions took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Defeat or not, Covenant Day got some senior leadership from Christian Montgomery and Luke Thompson. Montgomery shot 56% from the field to rack up 12 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds, while Thompson dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Douglas Smith, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Cary Academy was led to victory by Julian Tweedy and McCoy Williams. Tweedy dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Williams dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Williams is becoming a predictor of the Chargers' success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Covenant Day suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 2-6. As for Cary Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

Covenant Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-46 victory against North Raleigh Christian Academy on the 6th. As for Cary Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-58 win against Charlotte Christian on the 6th.
