Nixon-Smiley came into Tuesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Luling Eagles 5-3. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Jaydin Munoz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Munoz wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adan Zavala, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Zavala also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Julian Amaya was another, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Nixon-Smiley's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Luling, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Nixon-Smiley and Luling could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Nixon-Smiley (ranked 1230th) will meet Karnes City (ranked 369th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Luling will square off against Poth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 712 places (1113 vs. 401).
