Basketball Recap: Cass Drops Highest Score of Season Against Excel Christian Academy

Cass scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. The game between the Colonels and the Excel Christian Academy Eagles didn't end well, with the Colonels falling 73-59. The Colonels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Excel Christian Academy was led to victory by Mason McKinney and Jamari Gatson. McKinney dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards, while Gatson dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Gatson is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mier Bell, who posted eight points and four steals.

Cass is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Excel Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cass will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Paulding County at 7:30 p.m. on the 5th. The Colonels will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 61.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Excel Christian Academy, they will square off against Chattooga at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
