Softball Recap: Gibbs Finds Playoff Glory Versus Covington

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Gibbs walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Covington Chargers on Wednesday as they made off with a 12-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won 25 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Shelby Williams was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brianna Baker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Gibbs lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Gibbs' 15th in a row) raised their record to 38-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, they moved to 16-13-1 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Gibbs will face off against Heritage at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Covington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
