Softball Recap: Mountainside Takes a Loss

Mountainside fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Jesuit on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 2-1. The Mavericks haven't had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Jojo Appling spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5 strikeouts per game.

Mountainside's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Jesuit, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mountainside is set to face off against their familiar foe Beaverton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Jesuit will challenge rival Sunset at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crusaders 3.9, the Apollos 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
