The Zionsville Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Westfield Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zionsville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Monday, Zionsville got the win against Lawrence North by a conclusive 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Liv Reid and Kristin Evers dominated on the mound. Reid pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Evers pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Evers has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Zionsville let Tess Bradford and Charli Westerfield run wild. Bradford went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Westerfield went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Bradford has posted since back in March. Maggie Moore also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Zionsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawrence North only posted a batting average of .143.
Meanwhile, Westfield won against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard on Friday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Shamrocks beat Hamilton Heights by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-4. The win continues a trend for the Shamrocks in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won six in a row.
Chloe Tanner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Tanner was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Watson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Ava Kainrath was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Zionsville's record now sits at 13-2. As for Westfield, their record is now 9-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Zionsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Zionsville came out on top in a nail-biter against Westfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Shamrocks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
