Basketball Recap: Triton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Jimtown last Tuesday, Triton came back down to earth. The Triton Trojans were dealt a 70-35 loss at the hands of the Bremen Lions on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while the Lions are ranked 84th).

Triton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nadia Stetler, who posted eight points and seven rebounds, and Mylie Groves, who put up eight points. That's the most points Groves has posted since back in January.

Even though they lost, Triton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Kila Foster continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bremen, going 9 of 18 on her way to 24 points and five steals. Foster is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Grubbs, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Triton dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bremen, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Triton will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. Pioneer will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Triton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bremen, they will welcome Mishawaka Marian at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th.
