Softball Game Preview: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Plainfield Central Wildcats

The Plainfield South Cougars will face off against the Plainfield Central Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Plainfield South has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Plainfield South's offense. They lost 13-0 to Yorkville on Thursday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Foxes recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Plainfield Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over West Aurora on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kierney Latarewicz tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025.

At the plate, Emma Sommerfeld and Evalyn Prochaska did most of the damage at the plate: Sommerfeld went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Prochaska went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most RBI Sommerfeld has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Ava Zitello, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Plainfield Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Plainfield South's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Plainfield Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
