Baseball Recap: Jackson City Find Success

It was a proper cat-fight when Jackson City challenged Lee County on Thursday. The Tigers walked away with a 9-4 win over the Bobcats. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Gavan Ritchie and Kannan Lovins made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Ritchie pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Lovins struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Ritchie also tossed a walk, which is notable because Jackson City is 6-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. At bat, Ritchie went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Lovins went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Caige Ellis was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jagger Lovins, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Jackson City's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Lee County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Jackson City will square off against Magoffin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Lee County, they are taking a road trip to take on Hazard at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight.
