Basketball Recap: Jay Comes Up Short at Home Against Madison

Jay unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 67-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madison Mavericks on Saturday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Jay lost, don't look at Alijah Hubbard. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-16 en route to 28 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Adyn Rodriguez, who posted seven points and ten boards.

Josiah Fite-Brown had an outrageously good game for Madison as he shot 53% from the field to rack up 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points gave Fite-Brown a new career-high. Darien Howard was another key player, going 6-for-15 on his way to 16 points.

The win got Madison back to even at 1-1.

Jay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-57 defeat against Taft on the 18th. As for Madison, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 43-21 victory against Jefferson on the 18th.
