Coronado has gone 8-2 against Basic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Wolves at 3:30 p.m. Coronado will be strutting in after a victory while Basic will be coming in after a loss.
Coronado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Green Valley, who was ranked 11th at the time (Coronado was ranked 15th). The Cougars put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Bailey Goldberg was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Magdaleno, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Coronado hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Basic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They lost 17-0 to Arbor View.
Coronado now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Basic, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Basic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coronado has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Basic, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Coronado's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Coronado came out on top in a nail-biter against Basic in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
