Baseball Game Preview: Whitley County Colonels vs. Wayne County Cardinals

The Whitley County Colonels will challenge the Wayne County Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Whitley County had taken Madison Southern down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Colonels lost 8-2 to the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Colonels have suffered since April 4, 2024.

Jason Nunley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Wayne County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Russell County, falling 10-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 11, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Wayne County now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Whitley County, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 25-6.

Whitley County beat Wayne County 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
