Baseball Game Preview: Summit Hilltoppers vs. The Pingry School Big Blue

The Summit Hilltoppers will head out to take on The Pingry School Big Blue at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Summit is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Westfield on Thursday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The contest marked the Hilltoppers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Summit saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shane Walsh, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. That hit was Walsh's first of the season.

Meanwhile, The Pingry School was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Warren Hills Regional. On the bright side, the ten- run effort marked the Big Blue's highest-scoring game to date.

The Pingry School also got a good showing from Shane Varneckas, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

Summit's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for The Pingry School, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Everything went Summit's way against The Pingry School in their previous meeting on Wednesday, as Summit made off with an 18-6 victory. Do the Hilltoppers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Big Blue turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
