Basketball Recap: Avery Barnes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wiregrass over Abbeville Christian Academy

Wiregrass was the 44-42 winner over Abbeville Christian Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Kings fell 52-42 to the Generals on Monday. The loss was the Kings' first of the season.

Wiregrass' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Barnes, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds. Barnes is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Emma Kelty was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

It was another big night for Amari George, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards for Abbeville Christian Academy. That's the most points George has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anna Blankenship, who had six points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Wiregrass fell to 3-1. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coincidentally, Wiregrass and Abbeville Christian Academy will both be playing Edgewood Academy the next time they take the court. The Generals will host the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Kings will head out to face them at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
