Preview: Banff Bears vs. Humble Christian Cougars
Banff is 1-9 against Humble Christian since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Banff Bears will look to defend their home court against the Humble Christian Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Banff has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16.
Banff struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Friday (The Connection School of Houston was 41% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Banff lost to The Connection School of Houston on the road by a decisive 48-34 margin. Banff has not had much luck with The Connection School of Houston recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaden Orideatu, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Anthony Perla, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Humble Christian was handed a 21-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against School of the Woods on Saturday. Humble Christian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 win over School of the Woods. The win was just what Humble Christian needed coming off of a 62-41 defeat in their prior game.
It was another big night for Noah Vickers, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Kyron Williams was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Banff has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Humble Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Banff suffered a grim 58-35 defeat to Humble Christian when the teams last played last Saturday. Can Banff avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
