Preview: David Crockett Pioneers vs. Sevier County Smoky Bears
The David Crockett Pioneers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Sevier County Smoky Bears at 7:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: David Crockett has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Sevier County will arrive with seven straight wins.
While it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, David Crockett was not quite Dobyns-Bennett's equal in the second half on Friday. David Crockett ended up on the wrong side of a rough 28-7 walloping at the hands of Dobyns-Bennett. While losing is never fun, David Crockett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Dobyns-Bennett is ranked 57th).
Meanwhile, Sevier County put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on East Hamilton with a sharp 28-7 win.
Sevier County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jude Costner, who picked up 66 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Newman, who threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns.
David Crockett has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Sevier County, their win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
David Crockett was able to grind out a solid win over Sevier County in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, winning 24-14. Will David Crockett repeat their success, or does Sevier County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
