Baseball Recap: Lawrence County Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lawrence County waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Richland Rangers by a score of 6-3. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Rangers on their field since March 9, 2019.

Grey Boyd and JaKobe Haynes did most of the damage at the plate: Boyd scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Haynes scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Boyd is becoming a predictor of Lawrence County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hunter Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Lawrence County pushed their record up to 9-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Lawrence County Cougars challenge McComb Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McComb has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.56 runs per game on average), something Lawrence County will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Richland, they are taking a road trip to take on Raymond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
