Football Game Preview: Wimberley Texans vs. Gonzales Apaches + How To Watch

The Wimberley Texans will venture away from home to face off against the Gonzales Apaches at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wimberley has given up an average of 29.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

While Wimberley's victory against Jarrell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Texans made off with a 35-34 win over the Cougars. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Texans considering their nine-point performance the game before.

Maverick Jacobs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 143 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. He is becoming a predictor of Wimberley's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Jackson Parker was another key player, rushing for 34 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Gonzales' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Navarro on the road by a 31-14 margin.

Gonzales' defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Wimberley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything came up roses for Wimberley against Gonzales when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 59-10 victory. In that contest, the Texans amassed a halftime lead of 31-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
