Baseball Game Preview: South Adams Starfires vs. Whitko Wildcats

The South Adams Starfires will venture away from home to square off against the Whitko Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Thursday, South Adams didn't have quite enough to beat Adams Central and fell 10-9. The Starfires have struggled against the Flying Jets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Derek McKean and Jax Wanner did some serious damage despite the final result: McKean got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wanner went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Luke Bauman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Columbia City hit Whitko with a eight-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats fell 9-4 to the Eagles.

Riley Harman and Easton Grable stepped up to the plate in a big way. Harman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Grable went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Whitko has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. As for South Adams, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
