Softball Game Preview: Mountain Crest Mustangs vs. West Field Longhorns

The Mountain Crest Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the West Field Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Crest has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mountain Crest is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 14-4 to Fremont. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 28, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Mountain Crest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sage Walker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another was Addi LaRocco, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Mountain Crest hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, West Field faced Bountiful in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. West Field came up short against Bountiful, falling 11-2. The contest marked the Longhorns' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Ella Doxey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. Kam Bell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

West Field's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Mountain Crest, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountain Crest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like West Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
