The Bethesda Christian Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Ben Davis Giants at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bethesda Christian will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Bethesda Christian will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Heritage Christian, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Patriots walked away with an 11-6 win over the Eagles on Monday. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Annah Heath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Avery Gibbs and Alyssa Crowder did most of the damage at the plate: Gibbs went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Crowder went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Gibbs has posted since back in May of 2024. Maylin Heathco also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Bethesda Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage Christian struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, while Ben Davis put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Lawrence Central. The Giants came out on top against the Bears by a score of 4-0. The Giants haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Riley Gilliland's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ben Davis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailee Latimer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Bethesda Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ben Davis, the win also got them back to even at 4-4.
Bethesda Christian suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Ben Davis in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
